Mohonk Mountain House - Hudson Valley, NY
Nestled in the Shawangunk Mountain Range, the Mononk Mountain House is a Victorian castle turned fanciful lodge, and is a must see when in the Hudson Valley. Just an hour and a half outside of Manhattan, this expansive property is well worth the drive up and will not disappoint with its award-winning spa and endless hiking trails.
Every year we make our yearly trip to the Hudson Valley for Thanksgiving, and we always make sure to set aside time to visit Mohonk for an entire day of ice-skating, hot cocoa and hunting for treasures in the darling gift shop (think crafty wooden toys for the kids, and beautifully woven wool hats to keep warm). We love to cozy up by one of the many fireplaces, and simply meander around the property to take in views of the surrounding lake. After a day of simple adventures, winding up in the Carriage House with friends and family and a bottle of great wine is the perfect ending to a day spent at Mohonk. We just came back from our yearly pilgrimage, and I was reminded once again why we keep going back.
Although we mostly visit in the wintertime, our summer visits have been equally as pleasing. Hiking their miles of trails is a treat, especially the famed “Lemon Squeeze” hike, a local Hudson Valley favorite. Spend long, lazy afternoons sitting in a rocking chair on the covered porch, overlooking the lake with your favorite book, enjoy afternoon tea in the main lounge. End your day in the spa with breathtaking views of the mountainside.
